Chaos Elements

Slider, Pressure and Alarm cannot be solved, only kept under control. How each one behaves and who should own it.

Updated October 11, 2026

Checked with game version 1.1.0

Besides the defusal modules, a bomb can carry up to four Chaos elements. Three shipped at launch; the MAYDAY update (1.1.0) added a fourth, Balance. They are never completed; they nag until the bomb is defused, and they exist to keep the blind player busy while the other two are mid-lookup. Chaos elements are not the same as environmental hazards (outages, obstructions, radio noise); the MAYDAY update of 9 October 2026 added new hazards and obstacles with its new location, not new Chaos elements as far as the announcement says.

Slider

Schematic icon: a slider track with a warning triangle

A single vertical track with a warning triangle. The handle creeps upward on its own and has to be pulled back down, again and again, for the whole run. First seen in level 4, present in 16 of the 30 campaign levels.

Pressure

Schematic icon: a gauge with a needle and a button

A gauge with a needle that rises continuously, and one large button beneath it. Pressing the button pushes the needle back down. First seen in level 6, present in 15 levels; level 29 runs two at once.

Alarm

Schematic icon: a countdown display over a grid of buttons

A small display above a 3 × 3 grid of buttons. When it activates, some buttons become "heated" and every heated one has to be pressed within ten seconds. It gives a visual warning and sounds a timer, so the deaf and mute players see it and the blind and mute players hear it. First seen in level 10, present in 17 levels; level 30 runs two.

Balance

Schematic icon: a gauge with a centred needle and two buttons

New in 1.1.0. A gauge whose needle drifts off centre; left and right buttons push it back. Keep it balanced until the bomb is defused. Nothing beyond the manual sentence is documented yet.

Handling them

  • One owner per element, for the whole level. The deaf player watches the height or the needle and warns; the blind player acts; the mute player holds the paused lookup in their head.
  • Agree a threshold. Do not interrupt a module for a slider at a quarter; do interrupt at an agreed point, and say so with a fixed phrase: "Slider, pausing Calculator."
  • Resume by re-reading. After the interruption, the deaf player re-reads the paused module's state before the next input. Stages, lights and numbers may not be where you left them.
  • Alarm gets a dedicated responder. Everyone else goes quiet for those ten seconds. Press every heated button, not just the first, and confirm the alarm cleared.
  • Do not hand a Chaos element to whoever is keeping a sequence history (Monkey-Says).
  • In practice all Chaos elements are worked by the blind player, since only they can touch the bomb; the others watch and warn.
